It’s possible to use an antenna in an attic next to a window. Here’s what we recommend:
- A cell signal booster has two antennas: one that communicates with the cell tower (the donor antenna) and one that communicates with cell phones inside the home (the broadcast antenna). The most important issue is having enough separation between those two antennas so they don’t feed back on each other, like a microphone that’s too close to a speaker. Putting the donor antenna inside the house can make that more difficult.
- If the cell tower you’re trying to get signal from is in the direction that attic window is facing, it would be better to use a directional antenna (like the Top Signal TS220971). This will solve some of the antenna separation problem if you have an inside broadcast antenna that you can point in the opposite direction of the donor antenna in the attic.
- If you need to get signal from multiple cell towers in different directions, it would be better to have that antenna outside and up high so it has a clear view all around it. We have a low-profile, 3⅝-inch omni antenna that might work within your HOA restrictions.
